It may be cold outside, but it’s hot in here, so spend your winter break with us! Warm up in Butterflies!, check out our awesome live animals, and visit our special exhibit, Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies. Celebrate what makes the Academy great with exciting stage shows, fascinating fossils, hands-on science, and extra special specimens from our collections. We’re so hot it’s dino-mite!

Auditorium Show: Academy Animal All-Stars
11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Learn all about the creatures that call the Academy home and their adaptations, habitats, similarities, and differences. Meet some furry, feathery, and scaly Academy ambassadors!

Auditorium Show: Bugs on the Big Screen
1 p.m.

Did you know that bugs outnumber humans 200 million to 1? Check out some awesome arachnids or cool cockroaches in this technology-enabled show featuring the live invertebrate collection of the Academy. Compare these bugs to your favorites in Outside In!

Hot and Cold Diorama Challenge and Specimen Station

How do cold-blooded animals survive the winter? How do warm-blooded animals keep it cool in summer? Find out at this interactive education station featuring real Academy specimens (including your favorite weird things in jars!) as well as touchable specimens and knowledgeable Academy scientists. Pick up a diorama scavenger hunt to find the warm- and cold-blooded creatures on display around you.

Hi-BEAR-nation Craft

Bears are famous for sleeping through the winter. You’ll be wide awake as you show off your artistic side and create a bear-themed craft to take home.

Dinosaur Mini-Dig Make-and-Take

The dinosaur fun doesn’t have to stop when you leave the Academy! Make and take your own dinosaur mini-dig. Choose your favorite dinosaur, “fossilize” it, and practice paleontology at home. Free with wristband to Tiny Titans.

Cold-Blooded Creatures

Why are reptiles so COOL? Find out as you get up close to the Academy’s own snakes, turtles, and lizards. Use cutting-edge technology to explore their miniature world at this interactive cart featuring our live animal ambassadors. Snap a selfie with our giant tortoise nearby, and share your pics on Facebook and Instagram @acadnatsci #academyofnaturalsciences.

Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies
Open through January 15, 2018

Take a rare and exciting look at dinosaurs through their eggs, nests, and embryos. Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies presents an astonishing array of authentic dinosaur eggs and nests collected from around the world, including examples from each of the major plant- and meat-eating dinosaur groups. Touch dinosaur fossils, play paleontologist and dig for dinosaur eggs, examine real dinosaur embryo skin and eggshells under magnification, dress up as an Oviraptor or sauropod, and so much more! $5 for nonmembers in addition to general admission; $3 for individual and family members. Family plus members and above see it free.
